Scouts Travel to Quincy for President Camporee
By: Charlie Laham, Second Class
Over Columbus Day weekend, Troop 3 Westwood traveled to Quincy for the President Camporee. Troops from across the Commonwealth participated in a wide variety of activities throughout the event.
The weekend kicked off with setting up camp, where Troop 3 pitched about eight tents. Drawing on team-building skills and past experience, the Scouts efficiently set up the site before gathering for an opening ceremony that welcomed all participants to Quincy.

Following the opening events, the troop set out on a three-hour hike that brought them aboard the USS Salem (CA-139), a decommissioned World War II heavy cruiser. It was a fascinating visit that sparked plenty of curiosity as the Scouts explored how sailors lived on board. After hiking back to campsite, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by troop members, led by Kendall, Christine, and Celine, with support from the rest of the team.
On Sunday, Troop 3 joined two other troops for a hike through Quincy to learn about Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams. The Scouts visited their final resting places and gained insight into their historic leadership. In addition to exploring the history, the troop participated in a community service project, helping dig holes for new flower beds before another troop stepped in to add soil and plants.
Though a incoming storm forced the weekend to end a bit earlier than planned, the trip was a fantastic experience. Throughout the Camporee, Troop 3 demonstrated teamwork, respect, and strong leadership while deepening their connection to American history and service.
